Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026

2026 election dates by state.

When voters in each state must register, ask for and return a mail ballot, and vote early in person, for the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Plan your email around them.

All states

Each date was read from that state’s election office: its website, voter guide or law, most recently on Friday, October 16. Rules change, and counties can differ: confirm with your state or county election office before you plan a send. “Postmarked by” means the postmark date counts; “received by” means it must arrive by then.

Source: vote.utah.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Same-day registration. Yes, both during early voting (at an early voting location) and on Election Day, in person with two forms of valid ID; the voter casts a provisional ballot (Utah Code 20A-3a-601(1)(b), 20A-2-207). Source: vote.utah.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Ask for a mail ballot. No application needed: every active registered voter is mailed a ballot automatically (ballots mailed starting 13 Oct). • Register by mail. No separate mail deadline is published: Vermont allows registration on any day up to and including Election Day, but the SOS does not say by when a MAILED form must reach the town clerk to be processed. Voters can always register in person at the polls on Election Day. Source: sos.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Register online. Online registration is offered (Vermont Voter Portal, vote.vermont.gov), but no online cut-off is published; registration is open through Election Day and the SOS does not say whether an online application submitted on or just before Election Day will reach the polling-place checklist. Same-day registration at the polls is the fallback. Source: sos.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Register in person. In person at the town or city clerk's office during normal business hours on days before the election, and at the polling place during polling hours on Election Day (polls close 7:00 p.m.). Source: sos.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Same-day registration. Both: register and vote the same day at the town clerk's office during the early voting period, and at the polls on Election Day (since 1 Jan 2017). First-time registrants take the voter's oath before voting early. Source: sos.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Ask for a mail ballot. No request needed for the general election: the state automatically mails a ballot to every active registered voter (mailing started by 21 Sept, completed by 1 Oct; 2026 ballots mailed per SOS release of 7 Oct). Anyone else can request an early/absentee ballot until 5:00 p.m. or the town clerk's closing on Mon 2 Nov 2026 (17 V.S.A. 2531). Source: sos.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Return a mail ballot. Official sources differ: the statute (17 V.S.A. 2543) lets a mailed ballot reach the town clerk before the polls close on Nov 3, while the Secretary of State tells voters to get it to the clerk by the day before or bring it to the polls by 7 p.m. Shown empty rather than pick one. Source: legislature.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Early voting starts. Early in-person voting at the town clerk's office (no excuse) 'begins 45 days before the elections or as soon as ballots are available'. 45 days before is Sat 19 Sept 2026, the latest day clerks must receive ballots; actual first day depends on each town's ballot arrival and office hours. Source: sos.vermont.gov (opens in a new tab) Checked October 16.
  • Early voting ends. Early in-person voting at the town clerk's office may run through the day before the election (Mon 2 Nov) during the clerk's hours, but a clerk with no hours that Monday stops on the last day the office is open, so there is no single last day. Each date was read from that state’s election office: its website, voter guide or law, most recently on Friday, October 16. Rules change, and counties can differ: confirm with your state or county election office before you plan a send. “Postmarked by” means the postmark date counts; “received by” means it must arrive by then.
